One of the best happy hours in New York also has to be the best deal on Park Avenue, and it’s also one of Deanna’s and my favorite places…City Crab! Deanna and I went frequent this place at 19th and Park because we love the atmosphere, the menu, and the great happy hour deals. Tonight, we just went for happy hour, but even when we go for dinner, we always start with an appetizer at the bar.
I’m gonna sound like I work for this place because I rave about it so much, but they’ve got some seriously good deals – most wines and bottled beers are half off as are the hot appetizers. It’s every day during the week and extended hours on the weekends, and it’s always a good time.
Tonight, I had beer and Deanna had wine. To eat, we shared the steamed mussels, tuna tartare, and a dozen oysters on the half shell ($1 each during happy hour!). Delish! In the past, we’ve also tried the lobster mac ‘n cheese, calamari, crab cake bites, and clams oreganata.
The rest of the menu is also excellent, but it’s pretty typical Park Ave prices, so that’s why happy hour is such a steal. And, it’s probably a good thing we don’t live close to City Crab otherwise we’d go there at least three times a week.

You forgot to mention the two best dishes on City Crab’s menu.
The New England Chowder is life-changing. Really, it is. I don’t even like chowders that much and I dream about this soup! Enough good things cannot be said about it.
Also, the Oreo Ice Cream Cake is so great. It’s not overwhelming in it’s chocolatey-ness. It’s perfect.
I realized I forgot these two things after I posted. The chowder is pretty fantastic, but the Oreo Cake is probably close to my favorite dessert ever. Since it’s the only dessert made in-house, it goes fast, and so we make sure our waiter sets a piece aside for us.
